Industry Overview of Inferior Vena Cava Filter Market
The inferior vena cava (IVC) is a major vein in the body that transports deoxygenated blood from various parts of the body to the right atrium of the heart and eventually to the lungs. To prevent blood clots from the legs from reaching the lungs, a device called an IVC filter is implanted into the vein. These filters provide improved protection against thromboembolism by capturing large blood clots and preventing them from traveling to the lungs and heart. Typically, an IVC filter consists of a cone-shaped structure with six stainless steel limbs that radiate from its apex. The filter can be inserted either permanently or temporarily, depending on the patient’s condition. IVC filters are typically made of phynox, an MRI-compatible nonferromagnetic alloy composed of chromium, cobalt, and nickel. These devices serve as an effective alternative to anticoagulant medications in preventing the potentially fatal consequences of pulmonary embolism. As a result, IVC filters are widely used in hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers.
How Big Is the Inferior Vena Cava Filter Market?
The global inferior vena cava filter market size reached US$ 662 Million in 2022. Looking forward, IMARC Group expects the market to reach a value of US$ 1,086 Million by 2028 exhibiting a CAGR of 8.3% during 2023-2028.
Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) Filter Market Trends and Drivers:
The increasing prevalence of cardiovascular disorders worldwide has led to a growing demand for inferior vena cava (IVC) filters among patients with acute venous thromboembolic events and those who have failed anticoagulation therapy. This rising demand is a primary driver of the IVC filter market. Additionally, advancements in medical imaging procedures and the increasing adoption of minimally invasive surgeries contribute to the market’s growth. The establishment of digital catheterization laboratories and the implementation of awareness programs by government bodies regarding cardiovascular disorders (CVDs) are also significant factors fueling market expansion. Furthermore, the expanding elderly population, who are more susceptible to developing chronic ailments, is expected to further drive the demand for IVC filters in the coming years.
